At the beginning of the 19th century, technical innovations also made it possible to produce vodka from potatoes. One of the most modern distilleries in Poland was established in 1823. In the same year, the production of “Wyborowa” vodka was started, which was recognized by the newspaper “Izys Polska or Dziennik of Skills, Inventions, Kunsztów and Handcrafts” as the best vodka in Poland. It was opened by the Polish Jew Hartwig Kantorowicz in Poznań. In this factory, for the first time in Poland, the Pistorius apparatus was used, which allowed to obtain spirit with a strength of up to 85% in one operation (and not three, as was done by the competition).
In the 19th century, other well-known distilleries operated in the Polish lands torn between the partitioning powers, such as Jakub Haberfeld’s Polish vodka and liqueur factory in Oświęcim, J. Prochownik’s vodka factory in Poznań, or the factory of Counts Potocki in Łańcut.
In such a landscape and in good company, the Warsaw Vodka Factory Koneser, founded by a group of Polish entrepreneurs, debuted at the end of the 19th century, properly called the Warsaw Rectification at the time and closely cooperating with the Russian Warsaw Treasury Wine Depot controlled by the tsarist administration.
