What is Private Label?

Private Label is a term used to describe a product manufactured by one company but sold under the brand name of another company. Commercial companies often use Private Label to offer exclusive products, differentiate themselves from the competition and control price, branding and marketing. Private Label works on the basis of cooperation between the producer and the seller. The manufacturer supplies the ordering retailer with the product to the specification of the retailer, who gives it its own name and packaging. The seller has the exclusive right to sell the product under its own brand and can set its price and promotion strategy.
